Health and Wellbeing Week 23 – 29 January: FREE activities

To celebrate Health and Wellbeing week 23 – 29 January, Storyhouse is hosting a number of FREE activities to support or improve mental and physical well-being.

Join Lyndsey from Animals Take Over for an Animal Handling for Adults on Tuesday 24 January at 2pm. Studies show that stroking an animal can help lower your blood pressure and being near them can help lower anxiety and stress levels. If you’ve got a cat or a dog for example, you’ll know all about the benefits of having a pet can bring. They can make you laugh, bring you joy, make you exercise (if you’re a dog owner) and soothe you too. Lyndsey will bring a variety of animals along with her to Storyhouse that you will be able to handle if you wish, or you are welcome to just listen and learn.

Alternatively, the Driving Workshop – Driving Safely for Longer on 25 January at 3:30pm will help to ensure your safety on the roads. Delivered by the Cheshire West and Chester Road Safety team, this is an informal get-together to discuss some of the issues which affect drivers over 60.

Or why not get creative with some Mindful Pebble Painting on Wednesday 25 January at 11am or Mindful Colouring or Doodling on Friday 27 January at 11am? Creativity can be a healthy way to relieve stress. It calms the brain and helps your body relax. This can improve sleep and fatigue while decreasing body aches, heart rate, respiration, and feelings of depression and anxiety.

On Thursday 26 January, there will be an opportunity to join the Storyhouse library team for an uplifting Sing for Wellbeing and mums can join Singing Mamas Taster Session on Friday 27 January at 10:30am. Singing is one of the most positive forms of human activity, supporting physical, mental, emotional and social health. It builds self-confidence, promotes self-esteem, engages the emotions and promotes social inclusion. No previous singing experience is required for either of these events.

While all of the above events are FREE, spaces are limited, so make sure to book your space!

Storyhouse aims to offer health and well-being support all year long, and not just for this week alone. You can join our library for access to mental health / wellbeing books here or explore some of our regular support groups, such as Chatter & Natter and the Friday Uplift group.
