YS Leaders (aged 18-25)

We are now looking for new young people to join Young Leaders 18-25 in 2022!

Is Young Leaders for you (or someone you know)?

Young Leaders is for people who may need extra support to gain skills, connect with others, discover their passion and develop work skills and knowledge of the creative industry.

Young Leaders are usually referred to us and sometimes they are on EHC plans, have left care, have been fostered, are a young carer, are neurodiverse, have accessibility needs, have low confidence, or have mental health concerns. This referral could be by a professional organisation that you are already working with, a parent or you can refer yourself!

If this doesn’t sound like you, another Young Storyhouse group might be for you!

Interested in getting involved with the theatre? Head to Young Company 14-16.
Love reading and talking about books? Head to Young Readers.
Interested in exploring marketing and getting creative with social media and adverts? Head to Young Marketers

What do YS Leaders do?

YS Leaders is a regular group that meets weekly.  You will receive mentoring, training and practical opportunities as well as exploring all of the different roles and teams at Storyhouse to find your passion. You will get to work on a group challenge while developing your skills and building your confidence. All Young Leaders will also complete an Arts Award. Find out more details about how Young Leaders works here.

When do they meet?

We meet regularly for around 4 to 5 months on an afternoon between 2pm and 5pm. It is great to have you in-person at the sessions, but you can attend virtually – we are happy to discuss this with you.

What about Covid and any lockdowns?

During any lockdowns this programme will move onto Zoom and you can Zoom into sessions if you are ever required to isolate. You will always be consulted and involved in the decisions when moving between in-person and online sessions.

It is important to us to keep you safe. All sessions are set up to allow for social distancing, face coverings will be worn by those who can and there are plenty of hand sanitisers in the building. In addition to this the team at Storyhouse are taking two Covid tests per week.

What else do I need to know?

We invite you to be mindful that we have endeavoured to create a safe space. We have a Safe Space Code of Conduct that you will find here – if you think anything is missing, or could be made clearer, let us know!

We will remove people from our session if they do not agree to these terms and are not kind or respectful to us, YS Members, visiting artists, and especially those whose characteristics are protected by the Equality Act 2010.

After the sign-up form has been completed we will get in touch with you and arrange a meeting! At the meeting we will to get to know a bit more about you, tell you more about the programme and most importantly you will get to meet us. Then we will decide together which programme will work for you. We can do this over Zoom or in person.

Meet the team – this section coming soon!

How to sign up.

If you know a young person who would benefit, you can refer them here, or if you are a young person who is interested you can let us know by filling out the form below, and a Young Storyhouse team member will be in touch.
