Event details

Like to talk about films? So do we!

Reel Talk participants meet up on the first Thursday of every month.

Each session revolves around an informal discussion about a film or theme of the month, whilst also giving you the opportunity to meet and get to know other like-minded film fans. No expertise is needed; Reel Talk encourages a non-judgmental and inclusive atmosphere where all are welcome to come along and chat!

Reel Talk meet ups are free to join but please reserve a place before attending!

REEL TALK meet ups

Up next: Thu 4 April at 6pm in The Kitchen

This month’s Reel Talk takes inspiration from both the upcoming release of the wordless animated wonder, Robot Dreams, and our special screening of the 1927 silent cinema classic, Chicago, which will be enlivened by a live musical score!

Join cinema team member Bradley as we talk about the importance of music in film. Is it the greatest filmmaking tool? From contrapuntal to diegetic music, the impact of music is never more prevalent than it is in silent cinema. It makes you question: with the right music, is dialogue needed at all? Let’s talk about how music enhances the film experience by not only informing the narrative but also by making you feel emotions that an Oscar-worthy performance or dialogue can’t.

Bradley is a graduate in media and performance at The University of Salford where his final practical dissertation was centred around the impact music has on narrative.
