Event details

Join Storyhouse Cinema and Talking Hitchcock’s Rebecca McCallum for an unmissable double bill celebrating two landmark anniversaries from the Master of Suspense!

Notorious – 80th Anniversary Screening

As this Hitchcock masterpiece turns an astonishing 80 years old, Talking Hitchcock and Storyhouse offer you a rare opportunity to experience Notorious-a film which brings together two of the director’s greatest collaborators-Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant-in a glittering and unforgettable onscreen partnership. Alicia Huberman (Bergman) is pursued by a man named Devlin (Grant) who mysteriously appears at one of her party’s one evening where a strong chemistry is soon formed. However, Alicia’s impressions are soon shattered when she discovers Devlin’s true identity and that she has been targeted by him for her family connections and a past romance. Alicia is put through a series of trials with the dangers and risks escalating in tandem with the conflict the pair face between that of love and duty. A pawn in a game of strategic political chess played out by men, as a marked woman, Alicia proves herself to be a woman of action who can achieve what her male counterparts cannot.

The Man Who Knew Too Much – 70th Anniversary Screening

In the year of its 70th anniversary, what better time to revisit Hitchcock’s only remake? The Man Who Knew Too Much is an infusion of domestic melodrama and political conspiracy. Beginning in Morrocco, we meet the all-American family: husband and wife Ben (Jimmy Stewart) and Jo (Doris Day) McKenna and their son Hank (Christopher Olsen). However, the jovial holiday atmosphere is soon shattered when Ben is privy to some top-secret information that takes the McKenna’s all the way back to London. This builds to a dramatic and cathartic scene in the Royal Albert Hall where Jo-a retired singer and entertainer-uses her voice to great personal and political effect. In true suspense style, Hitchcock encourages us to look closely and listen carefully as we watch the ordinary evolve into the extraordinary.

This double bill screening will open with a special introduction by Rebecca McCallum.
